New Poll: 78.3% of WSJ Readers Favor Statehood for Puerto Rico

The Wall Street Journal’s Question of the Day, “Should Puerto Rico become the 51st U.S. state?”, got a clear answer from readers:

  • 3894, or 78.3%, said, “Yes.”
  • 1079, or 21.7%, said, “No.”

A simple up-or-down vote of this kind often shows positions more clearly than polls with more questions and more options.

  1. SOME UNINFORMED CITIZENS,AND OTHERS BY EVILNESS, ARE COMPARING WASHINGTON D. C. ASPIRATION TO BE THE 51TH STATE OF THE UNION WITH PUERTO RICAN DESIRES.
TO THOSE PERSONS IT MUST BE CLEARLY ESTABLISHES THAT THE U. S. CONSTITUTION HAS A VERY DIFFERENT METHOD TO BECOMES STATE FOR D. C., THAT NEEDS 3/4 OF STATES LEGISLATIVE ASSEMBLIES AND 2/3 OF SENATE AND H. OF R. APPROVAL, WHILE P. R. ONLY NEEDS A SIMPLE MAJORITY OF U. S. CONGRESS FOR THE ADMISSION ACT TO BECOME A STATE. THE PREVIOUSLY STATED IS A HUGE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN BOTH “TERRITORIES” AND FOR D. C. IS PRACTICALLY LESS THAN IMPOSSIBLE TO BE ONE OF THE STATES.
